10 A fine Sunday afternoon to go white water rafting down the Sacandaga - and yes, Max is along for the ride
11 According to this highly accurate topographic map, we put in just below Stewart's dam and take out just at the confluence of the Sacandaga and the Hudson rivers
12 The transport buses with their missing body panels and rust, held together with tape and paint, seem to be about as safe as going down rapids in a small rubber thingy

14 Howie and I are paddling up front, the guide in the back is shouting stuff we can't hear, and Max is hanging on for dear life
