We started the vacation off right in Oahu with one of the most touristy things you can possibly do- visit the temple of everything and anything pineapple
Pineapples of all ages and sizes
And more pineapple...
Billy was having railroad flashbacks as we boarded the Pineapple Express. He was going to ask if it was named after the same strain that the movie was, but I don't think the smiling attendants would have been amused.
All aboard the Pineapple Choo Choo
After about 10 minutes, one field of pineapples begins to look like another
Bill shows off his award winning hula moves
The gardens at the Dole Plantation identified various varieties of Torch Ginger
Ohia Lehua blossoms
Yellow Ohia
Mr. Gecko
After the Dole Plantation, we headed up to the North Shore to peruse the lunch options at food truck central in Haleiwa
Max honed in on VJ's Butcher truck which was offering up all sorts of local meaty goodness
Including deer in various forms from Molokai. The Hawaiian word for this is 'bambi'.
Thursday night was our first time having dinner at The Pig & Lady. It's been one of our faves for lunch ever since it opened, but dinner was a whole new experience. Yes, please, we'll have one of everything on the menu!
The drink menu was all new, except for the Cobra Commander which they've been serving up since day one
Billy gives the thumbs up to his Midday Run
So, we're sitting there trying to decide what to order and plates of wings keep passing by us to eager tables. We think, well wings are wings, right? But there must be something going on, so we order the most incredible plate of wings we've ever had, with a peanut and kaffir lime glaze, crispy shallots, and lots of unidentifiable goodness. Worth the trip just for these.
Max had the duck pho. It was gluten free because they used rice noodles. Absolutely incredible broth.
