1 We're going to tap power from the mirror. So the first step is to pry apart the clam shell mirror electronics housing with a non-marking nylon trim tool.
2 With the housing removed, switched power is going to be tapped from the large molex connector.
3 Squeeze the top and bottom of the molex connector to disengage its latches and then wiggle it free from the socket. The female socket will pull out a short distance from its holder, which makes it easier to access the connector.
4 In previous vehicles, I used Valentine's hard-wire module which is a bit bulky to fit into tight spaces. This time, I tried MirrorTap which is very slim and taps directly into the mirror's molex connector. Also, the cable is the perfect length and gives the install a much more professional appearance.
5 Switched power is green with brown stripe and ground is brown with black stripe. The thin flat blades of the MirrorTap are inserted into the back of the molex connector.
6 Reconnect the molex connector and time to test out that the radar detector powers up and down with the ignition before final reassembly.
7 It's not strictly necessary, but I tie-wrapped the MirrorTap to the mirror cable bundle for strain relief.
8 Snap together the mirror clam shell housing and we are almost done
9 Mount and plug in the Valentine1, et voila!
