At the Dolphin Fish Market, it's what's for lunch (and dinner). Spicy salmon and scallop rolls 🍥🍥 for lunch and a couple of Kona-raised Konpachi filets to grill for dinner 🐟

A huge northwest swell rolled in on Sunday, generating waves with 45-60 ft face heights. In fact, on Oahu's North Shore the conditions were just right to hold the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational Surf Contest, popularly just called "The Eddie", for the first time in 7 years. Over 50,000 spectators crammed the shoreline to watch The Eddie, but we were on Kauai so we went to check out the surf at Hanalei Pier and what a show it was! 🌊🌊👀 Normally completely flat and placid, Hanalei Bay was rocking and rolling! The beach itself was closed as too dangerous due to rogue waves and only ocean safety patrols were out on sea-doos. Local surfers standing near us were chatting how several people they knew got sliced and diced pretty badly earlier in the day.
These women were idiots and were promptly screamed at by the lifeguards to haul their butts back to shore

Even 3 days later as the northwest swell was starting to subside, the surf was still dangerous rolling into Hanalei Bay 🌊🌊

It's been pretty cool, rainy, and misty on the North Shore. Last night was the first semi-decent view of Mt. Makana (aka Bali Hai) at sundown.
Lots of rain begets lots of waterfalls, taken right from our lanai while sipping morning coffee

After a week of rain, flash flooding, and road closures we finally have a sunny vista from our lanai 🌞
